McMaster’s international conference invites McMaster participants

McMaster University’s popular international review course in internal medicine, being held both virtually and in-person in Krakow, Poland from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, 2022 is now open to McMaster community members with free registration.

Currently more than 2,000 health care practitioners and learners from around the world are registered for the seventh annual McMaster International Review Course in Internal Medicine, known as MIRCIM 2022. For those attending in-person, it is being held at the ICE Conference Centre in Krakow.

The conference provides updates and state-of-the-art reviews of the latest topics relevant to front line clinicians — from trustworthy practice guidelines in cardiology and sepsis to thrombosis and pandemics.  

On Sept. 28, the course is accompanied by the Best Case Report Contest (www.mircim.eu/bcrc) with submissions from over 20 countries.

On Sept. 30, there is also a concurrent session co-organized with European Federation of Internal Medicine and International Society on Internal Medicine focused on health care economics and fundings.

MIRCIM was developed by the McMaster University Department of Medicine and the Polish Institute for Evidence Based Medicine. It is organized in collaboration with the European Federation of Internal Medicine, the International Society of Internal Medicine, the Jagiellonian University Medical College, with support from the American College of Physicians, and in partnership with more than 40 national societies of internal medicine from around the world.

“Our aim is to deliver up-to-date and reliable knowledge that is useful to general internists, subspecialists, hospitalists, physicians assistants and nurse practitioners interested in internal medicine, family physicians, residents and fellows in training specializing in internal medicine — and we are proud to say that we achieve this goal every year,” said Roman Jaeschke, one of the conference organizers.

“MIRCIM has become the focal point for discussing the latest breakthroughs, presenting landmark medical achievements and following discussions between key opinion leaders.

“Every year, lectures are delivered by an outstanding assembly of world-renowned expert speakers, mostly from North America and Europe, but also from Asia, South America and Africa, who also participate in discussion panels and lead medical workshops,” said Jaeschke, McMaster professor of medicine.

Speakers from McMaster at this year’s conference include Paul O’Byrne, Mark Crowther, Julian Dobranowski, James Douketis, Gordon Guyatt, Roman Jaeschke, Kim Legault, Dominik Mertz, Paul Moayyedi, Simon Oczkowski, Wes Oczkowski, Akbar Panju, Ally Prebtani, Bram Rochwerg, Jill Rudkowski and Mohannad Abu-Hilal.

This year other speakers are from India, Israel, Poland, Denmark, Germany, South Africa, Mexico, Turkey, U.K. and U.S.
